Top 10 LinkedIn Tips

There was a useful slideshow on CIO.com this morning, explaining the ten things you can do to get the most out of LinkedIn and its 80 million users worldwide.

In summary…

  • Keep an eye on who has been looking at your profile.
  • Optimize the keywords you use….just as you would for your website
  • Take advantage of the all the LinkedIn Apps to prep up your profile
  • Make sure you take the necessary precautions in terms of Privacy Settings.  Here are CIO’s top five recommendations.  (Remember, if you set yourself to be invisible, then while you can snoop unnoticed, you won’t be able to see who is visiting your profile anymore)
  • Keep checking the profile settings to take advantage of new fields that LinkedIn adds so that your profile stands out
  • Always tailor the new connections boilerplate when you seek new connections
  • Follow the same people on Twitter, and vice versa, and use LinkedIn’s Tweets application
  • Integrate LinkedIn with Outlook
  • Participate in Groups and contribute to discussions.  Ask and answer questions.
  • Follow and watch companies to track developments and opportunities to build your network further.

Another tip is to set aside some time to work on your LinkedIn network each week so that you nurture it and your connections to best effect.
